Came to Duke the end of March, 2009 to begin the necessary steps to receive a single lung transplant. Was placed on the active list on Tuesday May 5th and was called in for a possible lung on Friday May 8th, and again on Saturday May 9th when the first one wasn't a good enough match. As of today, Sunday May 17th, I am recovering on the 3rd floor
step down unit at Duke and am getting better each day.
I'm from Massena New York and have been lucky enough to have the support of my sister, Cathy Welsh and brother-in-law Jerry Welsh here in Raleigh.(along with their children and their families, Mary Kay Wells and Ann Marie Sales). I've been staying with them while going through this and will be staying with them afterwards.
My children (Kevin, Mike, Toni Lynn and Karen) will be helping in my recovery here in Raleigh along with helping my sister Cathy through my post-op weeks. Looking forward to getting back to New York early summer if all goes well and seeing my grandchildren Kristine, Nick, Jessie, Nate, Zach, Matthew and Joey.
I would like to thank everyone at Duke University Hospital for making this possible. I would especially like to thank my sister Kathy and brother-in-law Jerry as I couldn't have done this without them.
