This website was designed and published in January 2007 while my husband was hospitalized at Duke for a post transplant complication. We had talked to many Duke Lung transplant patients who had expressed an interest in being able to keep in touch with one another after returning home from their time a Duke.
Some patients exchange addresses and phone numbers before going home; others return home wishing they had. Duke Healthcare professionals also expessed a desire to be able to get in touch with former patients and see how they are after returning home.
Due to this interest, the Duke Lung Transplant Friends Website became reality. In addition to providing a way to keep in touch with one another, we also wanted to provide more information about the lung transplant experience at Duke as written by Duke lung transplant patients, spouses, families, friends, and staff. A commonly repeated phrase is: "knowledge is power." We endeavor to become part of an important knowledge base for Duke lung transplant patients and their families, providing information that gives you more power to make decisions that will impact your life.
We hope you will benefit from this website and encourage you to join and become an active part of what goes on here.
