I have been a nurse for nearly seven years, here at Duke on 7800 for three years, and by far, the experiences I have gained since I have been here at Duke are too numerous to count.  Over the years, I have taken care of numerous patients and what I have found, and truly grown to enjoy, is taking care of our transplant patients.

Over the three years that I have been here, I have become really close to patients and their families.  Some of our patients are here from days to weeks at a time; others are here for months at a time.  During that time, patients and their families become extended families to us as a unit on 7800.  We have had times of celebration when some of our long term patients are discharged, and, unfortunately, have had lots of tears and sorrow when part of our family (patients) are called on by God to join Him in heaven.  But through it all, we get through -- and to this day we still keep in touch with the families of those who have departed.

It is truly a blessing to work with the patients and their families because we all go through the good and the bad.  All of our transplanted patients hold a special place in my heart.  For those of you who have already been transplanted and those waiting for a transplant God Bless you all.

Sincerely,

W. (BJ) Panosetti, RN
